Dexter: Resurrection continues filming in New York City and that means more cast announcements are on the way! Variety has confirmed that How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel series.
Resurrection will pick up where Dexter: New Blood left off. If you're struggling to keep up with all of the various Dexter projects, I'll break it down for you. The parent series, Dexter, spawned New Blood as a follow-up and Resurrection takes place after that. There's also a prequel series titled Dexter: Original Sin that follows a young Dexter as he becomes the avenging serial killer we later know him as.
Additionally, another Dexter prequel series is in development centered on John Lithgow's antagonistic character Arthur Mitchell, also known as the Trinity Killer.

Deadline reports that Krysten Ritter has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection in what sounds like a particularly juicy role. The actress will play the recurring role of Mia Lapierre, a “renowned sommelier whose alter ego is the ‘Lady Vengeance’ serial killer.“
Ritter recently posted an image on Instagram saying she was heading out to New York City. Fans took this as an indication that she would be reprising her role of Jessica Jones for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, which is due to kick off production tomorrow. However, it seems that she’s being brought to the Big Apple by Dexter: Resurrection. Of course, this doesn’t rule out an appearance in Daredevil: Born Again while she happens to be in the neighbourhood.

After an underwhelming finale, which was followed by a mixed sequel and a disappointing prequel, the Dexter IP is now set to return with a follow-up to New Blood, marking the return of Michael C. Hall in the shoes of Dexter. With Paramount reportedly eying to expand this killer franchise, a lot might come down to the reception of this upcoming installment.

As for its potential future, Dexter could benefit from the casting of The Boys star Jensen Ackles, especially due to his chops in one single role, which can put most villains in the last two Dexter spin-offs to shame.

If there’s one series that really doesn’t need to have gone on as long as it has, it’s Dexter. The original eight season show had kind of written itself into a corner over the years, ending in what we can all objectively say was a lousy finale. Then came the unnecessary – but fairly well-received – follow-up, New Blood. And then a prequel series for some reason. And now – despite the insistence and apparent evidence that Dexter Morgan actually died at the end of New Blood – he’s coming back for Resurrection. But one person who won’t be by his side is sister Debra Morgan.
Speaking with People, Jennifer Carpenter outright said she has no involvement with Dexter: Resurrection, with herself and Debra Morgan moving on. “I am pretty focused where I am, and I feel like I’ve completed that box. I’m proud of it.” Even still,...

Jennifer Carpenter has confirmed that she will not be reprising her role as Debra Morgan in the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection. The actress, who played the character in the original Dexter series and later returned in Dexter: New Blood, addressed the speculation while attending the premiere of 1923 Season 2.
“I am pretty focused where I am, and I feel like I’ve completed that box. I’m proud of it,” Carpenter told People. “I hope that they’re having a wonderful time. And I’m so happy for the fans to have more to chew on.”
Carpenter originally portrayed Debra Morgan from 2006 to 2013. Her character met a tragic fate in the series finale when Dexter, played by Michael C. Hall, removed her from life support following a stroke. Despite Deb’s death, Carpenter returned in New Blood as a vision that haunted Dexter’s mind. [This story contains spoilers through the finale of Dexter: Original Sin.]
Three years after concluding with Dexter: New Blood, Showtime’s favorite serial killer returned with Dexter: Original Sin. The prequel series stars Patrick Gibson as a younger version of Dexter, with Michael C. Hall providing narration (and a surprising on-camera return as well). Set during Dexter’s earliest days working alongside Miami Metro, Original Sin came packed with returning characters, tropes and Easter eggs aplenty for fans of the original show.
“We had this canon of lore from nine seasons of the show from which to draw,” Dexter franchise veteran and Original Sin showrunner Clyde Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter when launching the 10-episode prequel show (of which he later said he hopes to continue, after Dexter: Resurrection). “If people like Easter eggs, this show is an Easter egg hunt. We would write the shows and start shooting them. Someone would come in and say, ‘Oh gosh,...

Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers ahead for Dexter: Original Sin
The final episode of the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin is set to air this week and has the potential to either add immensely to the lore or royally mess it up. The show is a prequel to Dexter and explores the ethical serial killer’s origins as his adoptive father guides him to channel his killer urges to the right space.
The ninth episode of the season showed a lot of bloodshed and while it felt like a climax, there are still many things to resolve. One of the biggest things that fans are expecting from this finale is a neat tie-up to the original series and a few resolutions of key mysteries, as Dexter Morgan begins his career as a serial killer.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from “Code Blues,” the Season 1 finale of “Dexter: Original Sin,” now streaming on Paramount+ With Showtime.
Over the course of just a few weeks in 1991, Dexter Morgan came into his own as a serial killer.
At least that’s how he tells it at the end of the first season of Showtime’s prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin.” In the finale, Dexter (played in his 20s by Patrick Gibson) satisfies the rage of his “dark passenger” by killing his first-ever big bad — Miami Metro Police captain Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey), who, it turns out, was trying to get revenge on his ex-wife by kidnapping and attempting to *** their son, Nicky.
While Dexter has never been the epitome of moral superiority, he has always drawn the line at endangering children. You can thank the traumatized kid who watched his mom be cut to pieces...

The cast of the next Dexter series is expanding! Emmy-winning actor Peter Dinklage has joined Dexter: Resurrection, the upcoming sequel to Dexter: New Blood that just started filming recently. Michael C. Hall will also return to play the titular character in the upcoming show. Hall has also been involved in the ongoing prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, the finale of which airs this Friday, Feb. 14.
According to the report from Variety, Dinklage is playing a character named Leon Prater, "a billionaire venture capitalist" with a dark side. It sounds like he could be one of Dexter's next adversaries. Dinklage is one of several new additions to the franchise. Uma Thurman has also been cast and her character is reportedly former Special Ops who works closely with Prater. Are they going to be the next villainous duo that Dexter must contend with?

Dexter, the show where Michael C. Hall played a serial killer who only killed other serial killers, ended in 2013, but has had a huge revival in recent years. First came Dexter: New Blood in 2021, which caught up with Dexter Morgan after he left Miami for chilly upstate New York. That series seemed to end with Dexter's son Harrison giving him a fatal gunshot...but apparently no, because there's a new show called Dexter: Original Sin which reveals that he's getting treatment for the wound.
Dexter: Original Sin will air the final episode of its first season this Friday on Paramount+ With Showtime. Next up is a sequel series called Dexter: Resurrection, which will follow up on the events of New Blood. Hall will be back as Dexter Morgan, Jack Alcott will be back as Harrison, James Remar will return as Dexter's spectral father Harry, and David Zayas will be back as Detective Angel Batista.

The world of Dexter is continuing to expand. Uma Thurman is set to star with Michael C. Hall in the franchise’s next series, Dexter: Resurrection.
Thurman will play the series regular role of Charley, the head of security for mysterious billionaire Leon Prater. A former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as the resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman for Prater, per the character description.
Dexter: Resurrection stars Hall as titular serial killer Dexter Morgan; he will also be the narrator, as he was in the previous series. Paramount+ With Showtime already announced three familiar faces also among the cast: David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, friend and co-worker to Dexter; James Remar as Dexter’s deceased father, Harry Morgan; and Jack Alcott, who played Dexter’s son, Harrison Morgan, in Dexter: New Blood.

What Do We Know About the upcoming continuation of the Dexter franchise, Resurrection? More than you may think. Dexter Morgan isn’t dead after all.
Despite Dexter: New Blood showrunner Clyde Phillips declaring that Dexter was truly dead at the end of the series and promised he would not lie to the audience, he later told TV Insider that the beginning of Resurrection would have a doctor say to Dexter ‘Had you been shot in the summertime, you’d be dead, but you were shot in zero degree weather. And we ripped you open, and we’re able to get you minutes before you died.

Dexter: Resurrection has begun filming. Michael C. Hall originated the title role - a moral serial killer who hunts down criminals who have escaped justice - in Showtime's Dexter, which ran for eight seasons between 2006 and 2013. He later reprised the role in the sequel series New Blood and as the narrator of the prequel show Original Sin, starring Patrick Gibson. The upcoming Dexter: Resurrection is set to follow the character's post-New Blood story. Although the show ended with what appeared to be his death, the prologue to Original Sin revealed that he had survived.

Despite having one of the worst series finales in TV history, Dexter is still widely regarded as one of the best shows of the last 20 years.
Michael C. Hall’s compelling performance as the titular serial killer drew acclaim, and the series broke new ground for Showtime at a time when the premium cable network needed hit series that were big around the globe.
The TV market was different in 2006 when the series premiered.

Thanks to the current trend of turning any moderately successful property into a franchise, what was once a diamond in the rough has been milked dry. At least two more shows are still coming.

Dexter: Resurrection is making plans for its debut, which includes updates about filming, release window, and some big casting. Here’s what we know so far!
Per TV Line, Dexter: Resurrection will begin filming this month in January 2025, and is expected to premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime. That’s definitely a fast turnaround. But you won't hear us complaining!
The prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, is currently releasing new episodes and the season comes to a close in February. So it'll only be a few months after that until we get more of the crime drama world, this time back to Michael C. Hall who originated the role. Both in the prequel and Resurrection, there's some familiar faces reprising their roles. So who exactly?

Dexter: Resurrection's first set photo has been shared, confirming that filming on the sequel series is underway. Created by Clyde Phillips, the world of Dexter seemingly came to an end in 2022 with the New Blood finale, which sees Michael C. Hall's beloved serial killer seemingly dying at the hands of his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). Now, there's plenty more of the franchise on the horizon, with new episodes of the Dexter: Original Sin prequel show continuing to air, and Dexter: Resurrection set to release in summer 2025.

Star Trek needs to avoid the current trend in Hollywood by remaking anything. Too often we see stories get rebooted, retconned, or otherwise restarted just to continue a successful franchise. The most recent series, and one that I won't deny I'm very interested in, is the Dexter reboot. With a firm conclusion in Dexter: New Blood, a new series is in the works that rejects the ending of New Blood.
This new sequel series will go hand in hand with a new prequel series. I'm quite excited about it and hopefully, it does things the right way. It's something that Star Trek can't really do and needs to avoid doing. Thankfully, Star Trek hasn't done the reboot idea much, they're always one bad year creatively from going into the typical cesspool that is content reboots.

Showtime’s upcoming sequel series Dexter: Resurrection has confirmed that David Zayas is returning as Angel Batista, fixing one of the biggest complaints about the character’s appearance in the limited revival series New Blood. Three years after Dexter: New Blood’s divisive ending seemingly killed off the titular character and saw Harrison Morgan flee after shooting his father, Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan is officially alive and back in Dexter: Resurrection. Showtime's prequel Dexter: Original Sin confirmed that Dexter was miraculously revived by doctors after being shot, meaning a major fallout is coming after he was exposed as the Bay Harbor Butcher.
After bringing Dexter Morgan back to life, the sequel series is also bringing back some important characters from the original show to explore the aftermath of Dexter being shot, outed as a serial killer, and facing severe consequences for his crimes. In addition to Michael C.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Dexter: Original Sin season 1!With Dexter: Original Sin adding some much-needed context to the younger years of the franchise's title character, the prequel show also manages to do so without falling victim to the same mistake as the original Dexter show. Although Patrick Gibson leads the Dexter: Original Sin cast as the infamous serial killer, original star Michael C. Hall is still heavily involved as he continues to perform narration duties as Dexter's inner voice. The recasting of Dexter Morgan was an obvious and necessary move given when the new show is set, but this isn't something the original project considered.

One of the biggest plot holes Dexter: New Blood introduced was completely ignored by Dexter: Original Sin, three years after the fact. Retroactive continuity changes, or retcons, are no stranger to long-running franchises. After multiple seasons spanning several years, most shows accidentally change something that was previously established at least once. Dexter had been mostly free of retcons for a very long time, until Dexter: New Blood introduced a major plot hole that also changed the franchise's history. However, just three years after New Blood, Dexter: Original Sin has changed it again.

Dexter: Original Sin is certainly drawing mixed feelings from fans of the franchise. While Dexter: New Blood was initially the end of Dexter's tale, the announcement of Dexter: Resurrection reveals that it isn't over yet. New Blood brought back Michael C. "Tonight's the night. And it's gonna happen again and again. Has to happen." These opening lines grace the pilot episode of "Dexter," in which blood splatter specialist Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) drives around while being on the prowl. What sets this show apart from most police procedurals is its upfront positioning of Dexter as a morally complex figure, a killer who (mostly) murders other killers who have managed to escape the justice system. However, this moral positioning starts to unravel once his meticulous plans start spiraling out of control and jeopardizing the faux-identity he has painstakingly crafted over the years. This tension between our intimate knowledge of Dexter's skewed vigilantism and the escalating suspicion about his crimes grants "Dexter" the edge required to become the tense, thrilling character-focused procedural that it is.

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 4!As young Dexter finally begins to implement the Code of Harry, Dexter: Original Sin revives a major aspect of the main series that was largely absent from New Blood. Though Dexter’s original series ended in 2013, the show has received a massive resurgence in popularity throughout the 2020s, leading to a limited revival in 2021, a prequel in 2024, a sequel slated for a 2025 release, and another prequel in development about Dexter’s Trinity Killer. While each new show sees notable departures from Dexter’s original formula, some, like Original Sin, are more intent on recapturing the main series’ successful recipe.
Though Dexter: New Blood and Original Sin generally had similar starting points, as Dexter killed for the first time in a decade in New Blood while killing for the first time ever in Original Sin, they took different approaches to episodic storytelling.

“What kind of person protects a man arrested for [domestic ***] while shading one of his exes?” he wrote.

Dexter Original Sin show details ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Showtime wasted no time greenlighting Dexter: Original Sin after New Blood’s record-breaking finale. While fans were shocked by Dexter’s end, the network acted quickly, opting for a prequel instead of a direct sequel. How’s that for timing?
Showrunner Clyde Phillips was all set to dive into a sequel. “We wrote all 10 episodes of the sequel,” Phillips revealed, adding that things got a little wild when MTV Entertainment’s Chris McCarthy came on board. McCarthy, fresh off the success of Yellowstone’s prequels, wasn’t into sequels. He wanted Original Sin. He told Phillips, “I’m not in the sequel business; I’m in the prequel business,” just like that, a Dexter prequel was born. Phillips quickly pitched it, and McCarthy’s four-word response sealed the deal: “Phenomenal. I love it.”
And bam, production kicked off.
But there’s more.

The Dexter Trinity Killer prequel series comes closer to fruition with a new development update. Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), the titular character of the acclaimed franchise, is a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department and secretly operates as a vigilante killer who targets other murderers. The prequel will explore the origins of Lithgow's Arthur Mitchell, Dexter's most devastating adversary who earned his nickname due to a pattern of three murders inspired by traumatic events from his childhood in Dexter season 4.
According to Deadline, the scripts for the Trinity Killer prequel have already been written after original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips and series writer Scott Reynolds held a development meeting for the series earlier this year. Phillips shared that John Lithgow, who won a Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award for his gripping performance as Mitchell, has agreed to lend his voice to the younger version of his troubled character,...
