As a former Chicago resident, I really wanted to like this show. The actors are competent and the premise seemed interesting. The execution was lacking. I do not get the lavish praise heaped on this show. The story is thin and becomes more and more so as the series progresses. Clocking in at around 30 minutes per episode, it feels like the showrunners were like 'ok we have about 10 minutes of a somewhat story, we'll have the actors improv for about 10-15 minutes and then we'll use scenic shots of Chicago to fill in the rest because we need to hammer it over everyone's heads that this is set in Chicago.' Best thing about the show was the music. Overall, too thin, unrealistic, overhyped.
A brilliant show: hilarious, smart, timely and very well done. Like an exquisite mashup of The Twilight Zone and Inside No. 9. Great narrators, great actors, great stories. Highly recommended!
