Taylor Sheridan took Hollywood by surprise when “Yellowstone” quietly became one of the biggest TV hits of the last decade. The monster success of that show even convinced Paramount to reverse course on a plan to turn Paramount Network, where the neo-Western airs, into a movies-only channel.
But no one is surprised now, as Sheridan has since created a sprawling TV empire for the studio centered on Paramount+. Alongside “Yellowstone” spinoffs “1883” and “1923,” the hit Sylvester Stallone drama “Tulsa King,” Jeremy Renner’s small town noir series “Mayor of Kingstown,” the biographical drama “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” starring David Oyelowo and Dennis Quaid, “Special Ops: Lioness” with Zoe Saldaña and “Landman” starring Billy Bob Thornton prove Sheridan is no flash in the pan.

Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) will continue to try and keep the peace in a town ripped apart by gangs in Mayor of Kingstown season four. Paramount+ officially renewed the drama for a fourth season, but didn’t confirm when production will get underway or a target premiere date for the new season.
Season three, filmed after Renner’s horrific accident, claimed the number one spot as Paramount+’s top series during its run, pulling in 8.8 million households.
In addition to Renner as Mike McLusky, season three starred Hugh Dillon as Ian, Taylor Handley as Kyle McLusky, Emma Laird as Iris, and Tobi Bamtefa as Deverin ‘Bunny’ Washington. Derek Webster played Stevie, Hamish Allan-Headley starred as Robert, Nishi Munshi played Tracy, and Michael Beach played Captain Kareem Moore. Some obviously won’t return as their characters met untimely deaths in the third season.

Though it might seem like a restrictive setting, the best prison shows showcase the different ways stories can be told about life behind bars. Unsurprisingly, many prison-centric shows are dramas and not for audiences seeking lighter fare. They cater to the dark stories of criminals who are just as dangerous in captivity and the loss of hope and humanity some of these inmates feel. However, prison shows can also deal with redemption, friendship, and even finding humor in such a life.
Some of the best prison-centered series draw their inspiration from real stories or are even docuseries about life for incarcerated individuals. There are a variety of angles from which to approach the prison-set stories, but it takes a particularly worthwhile show to make the audience want to spend time in such an isolated and disheartening place. From the critical hits to the underrated gems worth seeking out, the best...

The Season 3 finale of Mayor of Kingstown is almost upon us, and it’s sure to be a true doozy. The logline for the new episode, titled “Comeuppance,” promises, “Mike’s plan for the warring factions in Kingstown hits turbulence.” That maybe some fast and loose use of the word “plan,” though, because Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) seems to be in way over his head with all of the disparate issues at hand in Kingstown right about now… especially now that Milo (Aiden Gillen) is back in town. Still, even with all of the drama encircling him with Bunny (Tobi Bamtefa) and Callahan (Richard Brake) and Konstantin (Yorick van Wageningen) and, now Milo, he’s still, at heart, a family man. [This story contains spoilers from the second episode of season three of Mayor of Kingstown, “Guts.”]
If there is one takeaway from the Mayor of Kingstown over its three seasons, it’s that the fictional town of the Paramount+ series starring Jeremy Renner seems to drain hope and dreams out of its inhabitants.
Kingstown, Michigan — a city whose main industry is nine penitentiaries — is a wounded community. And that’s what Mike McLusky’s (Renner) voiceover tells viewers in the opening scenes of the second episode of season three, “Guts.” The message comes as McLusky, the town’s unofficial mayor and problem fixer, discovers new metaphorical fires in and out of the prisons for him to extinguish in Kingstown. The third season marks Renner’s...
