The long-awaited premiere of The Last of Us season 2 is nearly upon us, and HBO has dropped a handful of new images from the season. Check them out below!

Set five years after the events of the first season, The Last of Us season 2 will follow Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind. In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, The Last of Us season 2 features Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Rutina Wesley as Maria, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Catherine O’Hara will also guest-star in an undisclosed role. Jeffrey Wright will also reprise his role as Issac, which he played in The Last of Us: Part II video game.

The new batch of episodes are scheduled to begin airing on April 13th – and ahead of that date, Variety has revealed the names of six new additions to the cast, including the great Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix). The actor, who is often referred to as “Joey Pants,” recently appeared on just one episode of Dexter: Original Sin as a character called Mad Dog, who exited way too soon. Here’s hoping he’ll be on The Last of Us for a while longer.

Pantoliano’s fellow new additions to the cast are Alanna Ubach (Euphoria), Ben Ahlers (The Gilded Age), Hettienne Park (Hannibal), Robert John Burke (RoboCop 3), and Noah Lamanna (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds). Details on their characters have not been revealed.

With just over a month to go before “The Last of Us” Season 2 premieres on Max, and Variety reports today that six actors have joined the supporting cast of the upcoming season.

Joe Pantoliano, Alanna Ubach, Ben Ahlers (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), Hettienne Park (“Hannibal”), Robert John Burke and Noah Lamanna (“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”) are set to appear in the second season.

Pantoliano will play Eugene, a minor character from video game The Last of Us Part II that’s being expanded for the series, which is an understatement in that Eugene is never glimpsed beyond a photograph in the game. “I get excited when I see these opportunities,” said Neil Druckmann, who is also the creative director of Part II. “I’m like, ‘Oh, I don’t know Eugene that well!’ The story we told [in the game] was somewhat superficial.

It says a lot about the human condition, or at least the human ego, that the majority of our post-apocalyptic stories are about people who survive the apocalypse and become way more kickass. As opposed to, say, stories about the cockroaches who live on after we destroy ourselves, which is probably a more plausible scenario. The apocalypse looks like a pretty bad time in movies like “Fury Road” and “The Matrix” but the post-apocalypse is going to be pretty darned cool if those movies are any indication. At least that’s what Hollywood is selling.

Paul W.S. Anderson is no stranger to the post-apocalyptic subgenre. He’s made multiple “Resident Evil” films set in the aftermath of a zombie outbreak. Those films starred action hero Milla Jovovich as a superpowered post-apocalyptic warrior named Alice. But that was then and this is now, so he’s mixing it up a little with “In the Lost Lands.

Few films have undergone a reputational resurrection quite like Constantine.
