- TriviaAuthor Gabriel Chevallier credited the village of Vaux-en-Beaujolais as his inspiration for Clochemerle and indeed when this TV adaption was planned in the early 70's, said town did indeed feature in many references to the novel. Screenwriters Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, however, considered Marchampt, 20km away, a far better fit to what they envisaged for their adaptation and they persuaded producer Michael Mills to film there, much to the chagrin of Vaux residents. Ill-will lasted between the villages for years and questions were even raised in the General Assembly in Paris.
