Knowing when the episode was made, and things evolved regarding that topic, it is even more infuriating to watch now. The pros and con people, were both acting out of ignorance. True you can't judge a book by its cover, but some ideologies that are in spite of themselves, vehicles to unspeakable acts done in its name. Can't be seen through rose-colored glasses, either. Watching this episode, this sentence came to mind « Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven », I think it sums up perfectly the writing and how the production decided to address the paranoia following 9/11 in America. Not only that, but how they compared this to how Japanese were treated in America after Pearl Harbor (?), makes this episode even more ridiculous than how it can be in the show, when it tried to tackle political issues. Season 6 is a really good season, one of my favorites even, but it's episodes like these that can really spoil the fun.
I thought the pilot episode would lead to a cute and fun series, but as it progressed, it became more an more emotionally manipulative and full of misplaced agendas. This episode for example is about another trans character who whines all the time and only feels good dressing up as a woman, blaming the whole world for feeling bad about it. This Mo character is a pathetic cliche of what most people think of transgenders, who they see as depressive and unbalanced, and unable to own their own peculiarities without everyone kissing the ground they walk on. Divas if you prefer, which isn't a compliment... The Zoe character also becomes annoying thinking it's her mission to meddle in her loved ones and colleagues businesses. I'm really not liking where all of this is going and I can understand why the show didn't get renewed after season two...
