Subclass of abstract concept
[edit]I've removed the statements that an album is a subclass of a concrete object such as a memory device, because most of the instances and subclasses are about abstract concepts such as a work rather than a physical item (cf. w:FRBR I guess). I hope P2283 is better. This is how the situation was messed up, seen in wikidata-taxonomy:

@Nemo Hi There! Can you have a look at Property:P3962 "Global Trade Number" as well? Currently that property insists it needs a physical object to assign a bar code, which is confusing when assigning it to an album. Moebeus (talk) 10:28, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
- I see. Is that even right? Can't one give a bar code (an EAN) to a digital product as well? If it's true that a physical item is required, we can find another Wikidata concept which doesn't mess up with the subclasses of electronic devices. --Nemo 10:33, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
@Nemo It's not right, you can absolutely give a barcode UPC/EAN to a digital file, and it is indeed frequently done. I'm just not comfortable enough about property constraints and such to go in and change it myself without studying it a lot more :-) Moebeus (talk) 17:41, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Adding visual artwork (Q4502142) as a subclass
[edit]I've added visual artwork (Q4502142) as a subclass. I added this because i've added around 500 claims with the geocoordinates of the location of the album cover (e.g. Arrival (Q162392)) to albums, and those are all conflicted now because album should be a subclass of visual artwork. That makes sense: an album always has some kind of visual artwork attached to it, even if it just digital. Husky (talk) 10:36, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
- Not all albums has covers. What about digital releases? Musical album is a audial artwork, not visual. --Infovarius (talk) 21:18, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
- Virtually all releases, including digital ones, have some kind of artwork. Just take a look at a random streaming service: all music you see there has some kind of 'album cover'. Husky (talk) 22:38, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
- Almost≠all. At least many underground musicians of 1980s have their albums on cassettes without official release (and so, without cover). --Infovarius (talk) 00:18, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, there are always exceptions. But those exceptions are true for most of the items you'll find on Wikidata. I would rather be pragmatic in determining hierarchies. Husky (talk) 13:05, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
Oppose Per Infovarius. Intensional knowledge is not "pragmatic" by definition. --Horcrux (talk) 18:26, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
